I really liked the Yuyuan Garden. It was really beautiful and it reminded me a lot of the scenery in those Chinese Dramas. I also really liked all the markets.
Kia Lor
I really like the plants and buildings inside the garden. It looks pretty and very traditional. . I like the details on the buildings and roof. It's very specific and interesting.
Mai Choua Thao
The garden was very cool. I like how there are a lots of designs on the roof. I also really like how there are a lot of fishes in the river. It make the place feel and look lively.
Brenda Xiong
Going to the garden was beautiful. The French area was fun but people were aggressive told me by using their words.
Nhia Yang
The garden is really beautiful. In Shanghai, it is cold like in Minnesota and also people in China talked very loud and are very neat.
Der Lor
I had a good experience at Yu garden. The vendors would actually come up to you and ask you to buy their stuffs, so it was hard to say no and just away.

shopping

There are differences between shopping in the U.S. and in China. In the U.S we can't bargain. They have specific prices and you can't bargain down the prices. At the same time, the materials are very expensive. In China, we can bargain and there are a specific prices, but I can still bargain down the prices.
I did used a little bit of Chinese to bargain and it just works because those ladies were happy that I was able to speak Chinese, but mostly speak English because they mostly speak English to me. I did encounter some difficulties by saying that it was expensive and I can go buy it some where else. It works when I bargain. I just very like it.
Nhia Yang
What I anticipated from shopping in the Pearl Market has some similarities and differences but it was a life experience. The similarities of what I expect is that some of the product aren't that much of high quality. Also, that they are trying to sell for you at a high price. What I didn't anticipated is that some of the owners in the pearl market is really aggressive.
Chou Yang
I feel quite satisfied with the bargains. But for some, I think I could go lower. At first I thought it was impossible to get the price lower, but I found that if you try to walk away they will give you the price you want. And I found that to be interesting. I bought many gifts from this trip.
Kia Lor
They grabbed me by the arm and forced me to look at their things. It was a very fun and scary experience. It was fun because the bargaining and negotiating was cool. It was scary because there's too many people who want you to look at their things. I also like how you can bargain and at the end they let you win because they want customers.
Der Lor
Some vendors are very stingy as I observe, they would go on about their price until you buy it.
Mai Choua Thao
Shopping in a Chinese flea market was scary, and fun. It was scary because the worker would always tell you to buy their stuff. They are aggressive It was fun because we can bargain. Bargaining was very cool and amusing. I feel like I could get almost everything for cheap if I try it.
Isaiah Commodore
One thing that really enjoy about shopping in China is when you go to by something you don't have to pay the face value, instead you can bargain with the vendors to pay for goods. Barring is very important because the goods that they sale are always over priced but when you bargain you can get what you want for equal or cheaper price than its actual value.
Maine Xiong
The Chinese people will try to lie about their things but I will try my best to lower the price. It's very different from America because they don't bargain. The price is always right there.
Kashia Yang
I find it a bit scary, nerve wracking, annoying when the salesperson keeps trying to sell you something even though you say : wǒ bú yào (meaning I do not want it) so many times. Although, at the same time I find it a big amusing and I think it's fun arguing over the calculator.

Interacting with student at Xian
Mai Choua Thao
When he spoke in Chinese, I can only understand some words. His English is good. Whenever he needed help with his English, he'll ask the teacher or his friend that was sitting next to him. I thought that that was pretty cute. When he finished programming, he showed me how the robot moved. It worked. ^.^ The experience of visiting school was cool! I liked it. I was very excited and then nervous because I can't speak Chinese to them. Visiting the school make me think that my Chinese is extremely bad. I need to learn more Chinese, so that I can speak it fluently.

I paired up with a very cute boy. He was very smart. His name is Pu Xiang Lin. His job was to teach me how to make my own codes to control the robot. He was very good at explaining. He always made sure I understand what he saidI'm glad have met them and tried to communicate with them in Chinese. I felt special too when one of the little said that I'm clever already because when he first started, he doesn't even know how to use the computer .

This is the first time ever that I feel so great visiting a primary school. The elementary school is located within the local community. The entrance to the school is quite narrow but the building itself is pretty and very modern. I was nervouse at first because I don't really know how to interact with people, so I think it might be a problem, but the kids are very out going that I don't feel nervouse. I like and feel good talking with them. Even though we don't understand each other much, it feels good that they tried to get the information to me by pointing on the robot. Example would be when they were talking about the motor. They shown me where the motor is located on the robot. They also wrote it out on paper what they wanted to explain rather than not communicate at all. The whole trip to the school was unforgettable. It was great experience getting to know the students and communicating with them.

Meeting the "xiao haizi" was really fun. "Xiao haizi" means little children. They were great in robotics and very creative in their design. The xiao haizi that was partnered up with me was Jason. He is a very talented young man, because as I watch him program the robot it was amazing. After trying to communicate with him to determine what he's saying, he told me to try and program it myself. After looking at it for a while, i decided to play and do it. After I programmed it, I messed it up. I was moving backwards, and Jason saw and came to fix it. He was getting mad and frustrated because he couldn't find the solution; therefore, he told me the robot is sick. He also told me the name of it, Zhong Gou Robot. He was just 10 years old and could speak decent English. I was very impressed.

I had a very good experience at the primary school attached to xi'an jiaotong university. The boy was a very good teacher even though he's a sixth grader. I had lots of fun with him even though he couldn't speak English, I try my best to understand.
The boy was very good because when he knows that I don't know what he's talking about, he show me different gestures of his features just so I can understand. He speaks slowly one by one and demonstrates what he is saying. I like it when he tries his best to explain it for me even though he's not actually talking. He was using his hands, it was moving everywhere it was just this awesome hand speaking thing or something. He is very good at showing me what to do .
This was the best experience I have ever had. The boy is a very smart and a nice boy, I am happy that I had the change to go meet him. I got a little bit of knowledge of doing it and since I took robotics I can understand what he was saying even though he couldn't speak English.
Keshia Chinese School Experience:
I really enjoyed my time over at the Chinese school. Although I will have to admit that I was first really scared and nervous because of my lack of ability of speaking and understanding Chinese. Everything went pretty smoothly until we had to sit with a student and learn about building and moving a robot. There was also a language barrier because neither me or my partner, Victor were fluent in each other's language.
It definitely made it to one of my top 10 moments in China. Also, because of this it makes me more motivated to learn Chinese because maybe next time I will be able to have a decent conversation with Victor or any of the other students in full Chinese. I also want to add that Victor was so cute! He will turn out to be really handsome when he grows up!

Family visit
Manee Chang
The family visited was very awkward at first, but it was very nice. I felt welcome. The family serve us so well. It's mostly adults, so that's why I felt awkward. It's very great to have such an experience like that. I enjoyed it. The workshop was so amazing. It's about calligraphy. Mr. Dong was a calligrapher teacher. I learned that calligrapher characters have so many meaning due to the their style when they were written out. I also enjoyed the tea that they served us. They ha e three steps how to drink tea. First, smells. Then, look at the tea. After all, drink the tea slowly to feel the taste. This family was so preparing for us. I just felt welcome and happy after all.

The difference in culture is that they had slippers prepared for you to use when you first get there. Another Is that they have more Chinese decorations than we have American decorations.
The host family is similar to my family in that they have eat together at a dinner table, the talk together and live in the same home. One difference is that they have more family members in their home opposed to my own family which has just my immediate family.
Der Thoughts of culture
At first the family meeting was really awkward but fun at the same time. We didn't know what to talk about so it was kind of silent but not. We talk about the school of how different Chinese school is from an American school. I think that their culture is traditional because they like to drink tea. The way how they make tea is very different. They pour some tea over the tea pot and then pour the tea in the tea pot. They say that there is three steps in drinking tea. The first one is smelling the tea, second is looking at the tea, and then lastly is drinking it slowly to taste the tea. The tea can also have different taste. Their calligraphy is really cool I didn't know or I forgot that there are 3 strokes to the characters.

They have this tea professional women to make the tea in front of us. Through the tea talk, I learned that the tea in Japan was originated from China. One thing that was strange in nice way was when we went into the calligraphy room. When we were practicing writing down the character those people in the studio took lots of pictures. It was kinda funny. When it is time to come back, Mr. Dong the calligrapher gave us papers that he have wrote. He was very nice. At first I didn't expect them to treat us so nice, but they did so I feel very good visiting

Cultural experience
Mai Choua Thoughts on culture
China is very cool but it's kind of polluted because of the smoking everywhere. China have lots of history, traffic jam, and buildings.
We went to a lot of museums and places. The museums contains the dynasty's past and the culture. We went to the Terror-Cotta worrier museum, walked on the Great Wall of China, the heavenly of temple, the tenement square and all sorts of museum. I notice that all of them contains a kind of dynasty. In every place there's always a dynasty that's live in the place.
There were a lot of traffic everywhere! Sometimes I saw car crash and I would always hear cars honking at each other.Over all I think China is a great place for visitors. I would like to visit China again, but this time I would like to go by myself so that I can spend more time at a specific place. I love China. It's great.
Nhia culture
The culture of Chinese people is very unique. One thing that I feel good about the culture of Chinese people is their religion. The religion of Buddhism. Even though my religion is shaman, I respect Buddhism. Especially Guan shi Yin. For me, I like Buddhism when first saw Journey to the West and saw Guan Shi Yin. That is when I started to become interested in Buddhism. What catches me in Journey to the West is when Guan Shi Yin comes for their help. She seems so calm and seems like a mother or a sister that is willing to lend a hand when there is trouble. One thing that I like the most is the food.
I'm really glad to get to taste all the food in China like the street food that I have tasted, that is the deep fried squid

Emperor was the only person allowed to pray at the Temple of heaven. The emperor (and some officials) would conduct spring rituals, give offerings on the winter solstice to show gratification, and ask for help in times of flood or drought.
People in China have prayed to heaven, an omniscient all-powerful force that runs the world, for over three thousand years. Natural disasters, like the time when the Temple of Heaven burned down, are considered heaven's method of punishment
